Spread the love

Goo-Yuck is weird, but I love it and so do kids. It’s slimy, gooey, wet, dry, and just plain fun. With the weather outside yucky, this is a great activity for the kids—and you! And it’s not as messy as it sounds, so give it a shot.
The first order of business is to make the Goo-Yuck. There are different recipes but mine is a mixture of corn starch and water. Simple. The ratio is two-to-one. One cup water to two cups corn starch.

Just pour the corn starch into the baking dish and start pouring in a little bit of the water. Don’t pour it all in at once. Mix it with your hands and keep pouring in water. (If you want different colored Goo-Yuck, add a few drops of fold coloring.)

Once you pour all the water in, keep mixing it with your hand until it has a nice, gooey consistency. This actually doesn’t take that long, five to 10 minutes. As your mixing, it will feel like it’s sticking, but it pulls up easily, and you’ll start to feel that strange sensation of being dry and wet at the same time. That’s it.

The fun part is just getting your hands in it and playing with it. I let my kids use various kitchen utensils when they play with it, such as a colander, measuring cups, measuring spoons, funnels, and scoops. They can pretend they’re cooking.

You can also teach them about measurements, such as teaspoon, or tablespoon, or cup. But it’s just fun for them to play with on a cold or rainy day. And when you’re all done with it, you can easily store it either in a zip-lock bag or (I prefer this) in a plastic container. Make sure to refrigerate it.
